We read to know that we are not alone.  ~C.S. Lewis

This past Fall, the Book Club at Spirit House became both a cybersite and an onsite gathering. The Spirit House cybersite book club is a cozy online living room. Snuggle up with your book, a cup of tea and join in our cybersite discussions in your own time by the midnight candle. If you are geographically compatible with Spirit House, you may wish to join us in person. Beginning in September will be gathering onsite monthly to take the book journey together.

For many of us, books are a precious part of our spiritual journey. Thin lines of text carry us to the feet of impossibly foreign territories, timeless teachers, and the subtlest of truths. We dip into philosophy, history, science fiction - whatever rivulet we can travel in order to glimpse the expansive sea of ourselves and our world.  As a means of personal transformation, reading is a uniquely inward journey that manifests slowly and unpredictably in our daily activities. Each character, story line, setting provides a new dimension - boundless color for our imagination to play with. Stories are as old as time, and anyone who has ever fallen in love with a piece of text knows that reading is a powerful way to engage our spiritual practices: surrender, attentiveness, intention, compassion, non-judgment…

What does it mean to share that inner journey outwardly? What new experiences become possible when we explore ourselves through text with others? These and many other questions will guide us as we cultivate our reading community. In the process we will be building our own story of transformation through artifacts gathered along the way. Our hope is that as each book is tenderly archived we are left with a profound sense that something remarkable has happened both internally and externally, and magic was created because we journeyed truthfully and creatively together.

General Overview of Onsite/Cybersite Book Club
Timing – Our reading for the year will be divided into three (3) month segments.
Format – Approximately eight-ten books (depending on length of individual books) will be presented for reading in each three-month segment. One book will be the central hub or focus, representing our theme for the three-month segment. Additional texts will be selected to compliment the center or central book. Readers may choose to read as many books from the group as they wish and in any order. The voracious readers may finish all of the book selections!
Technology
– We will be using the Spirit House Facebook Page to communicate the discussion threads on specific books as well as the overarching theme discussion, post comments, contribute artifacts and follow the book club journey through the three months together.

Onsite/Cybersite Book Club:

The Spirit House Book Club announces our next reading selection:
Paramahansa Yogananda's The Second Coming of CHRIST.

This landmark work transcends divisive sectarianism to reveal a unifying harmony underlying all true religions. A groundbreaking synthesis of East and West, it imparts the life-transforming realization that each of us can experience for ourselves the promised Second Coming - awakening of the all-fulfilling Divine Consciousness latent within our souls.

Yogananda said, "In titling this work The Second Coming of Christ, I am not referring to a literal return of Jesus to earth. He came two thousand years ago and, after imparting a universal path to God's kingdom, was crucified and resurrected; his reappearance to the masses now is not necessary for the fulfillment of his teachings. What is necessary is for the cosmic wisdom and divine perception of Jesus to speak again through each one's own experience and understanding of the infinite Christ Consciousness that was incarnate in Jesus. That will be his true Second Coming."
